“Quant au chef grec Georgios Balatsinos, il ne prend pas Bellini à la légère… ce dont on lui sait le plus grand gré ! Son accompagnement est d’une extrême précision rythmique.” E. Andreu — Operaonline
Balatsinos has conducted numerous esteemed orchestras around the world.
Among them: the London Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Symphoniker, Opera Wuppertal, NOSPR Katowice, Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Sinfonica di Milano, Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, and ensembles across Hungary, Russia, Canada, and the Czech Republic.
A prizewinner at prestigious international conducting competitions in Berlin, Bucharest, Belgrade, and Brescia, he has refined his craft under the guidance of legendary conductors — among them David Zinman, Péter Eötvös, Neeme Järvi, and Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Chigiana.
— Early Years
At the age of six, Georgios began studying violin in Corfu. By sixteen, he had been awarded First Prize in the Panhellenic Music Competition of the Greek Ministry of Education — both in the string category and in composition, with his String Trio op. 4, premiered by musicians of the Athens State Orchestra.
At seventeen he travelled to Germany to refine his craft in Detmold. Studies in viola and composition followed. Over the next decade he trained between Detmold, Geneva, Bern, Lucerne, and Milan, eventually studying conducting at the Hochschule Luzern with Ralf Weikert and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi with Vittorio Parisi.
At nineteen, he became the youngest member of the Sinfonieorchester Basel.

As an active student, Balatsinos took part in numerous international masterclasses with conductors of the first rank — work that shaped both his interpretive instinct and his understanding of orchestral architecture.
In January 2015 he was among four conductors selected from 130 applicants by David Zinman to lead a workshop with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada. He was also a finalist of the 15th Interaktion Conductor Workshop of the Critical Orchestra Berlin — alongside leading musicians from the Berliner Philharmoniker, Staatskapelle Berlin, and Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
