Born in Athens and raised in Corfu, Georgios Balatsinos studied violin from the age of six and rose to become — at nineteen — the youngest member of the Sinfonieorchester Basel. Today his engagements span the Greek National Opera, the Athens Megaron, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Wiener Musikverein, and the Konzerthaus Wien.
His artistic signature pairs rhythmic exactitude with a restrained, song-like phrasing — qualities that have shaped admired readings of Bellini, Puccini, Mozart, and the late-Romantic symphonic repertoire.
Appointed for the 2025 season, leading the orchestra’s symphonic and operatic programme.
Including L’Italiana in Algeri and the 80th Anniversary Gala of the opera house.
Two-year tenure leading the Sorbisches National-Ensemble.
